New Obsession: Houseplants

Did you read that title and think, “I really hope Houseplants is the name of a band, or some YouTube talk show that I’m unaware of, otherwise I’m going to have to feel really quite sorry for Megan?”

I’m very sorry, because I’m about to disappoint you.

In our attempt to make this look like a house where adults live, we’ve been evaluating each space to death. A while back I asked for feedback on Style Lush about a corner of my house. I got a lot of advice there, and we’re looking for something big, either a mirror or a print, to go on the wall. (Although now that I’m revisiting that area, maybe that would make a good spot for a gallery wall?) ANYWAY, several people recommended a plant, and I’ve been meaning to find a plant for that spot, and we finally did.

I’m acting like we’ve been on a long search for the perfect plant, but really, I walked into Home Depot one day and saw their display of house plants and I picked one.

I moved the ugly stereo out of the way (we have to keep the stereo because it plays records, and my husband has a million old records, but it is UGLY and I dislike it) and put the plant in it’s place, and I love it. It doesn’t draw attention to itself, but it fills out the space and helps make the room look finished without being a knick knack or something else that I’ll have to dust.

So, since then I’ve bought three more, and I’m finding many more spaces that need a plant to complete them.

The one on the bottom right is technically a patio plant since it’s… on the patio.

So, it’s now my goal to keep them alive for a very long time. I don’t even know what they’re called, much less how much water they need and how often, so I think I’ve got some research to do.

I think this means that I’m a real adult now.

  1. Ohh good luck keeping them all alive! I'm horrid at that so Alex won't even let me buy one to try anymore. Which I can hear the houseplants thanking the heavens above for as I walk by each and every time.
