Super late posting on this one, you guys.
April’s date night was planned for us. The husband received an award at work and they had a district-wide dinner for the recipients. Does a work dinner count as a date night? If there’s dinner, dessert, wine and a Days of Our Lives themed table, then yes.
Let me back up. Every year, the schools decorate the tables of the award winning teacher in a theme. Sometimes it’s just a random theme, like, “Summertime!” and sometimes the themes are personal.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this, but my husband is a big time Days of Our Lives fan. A friend of mine has worked on the show for years, and a year after we were married I took the husband to the set. He was in HEAVEN. It was hilarious.
Anyway, I had kind of forgotten about the themed tables, until we found our table number and saw all of this:
The pictures don’t even come close to doing it justice. There was a face on a stick for every person, and pom poms, and so many little touches. I couldn’t photograph them all because I didn’t want to out my blogger self to my husband’s co-workers who were already giving me the side eye for the few pictures I did take.
My husband, who wasn’t terribly excited about attending, had a GREAT time. He loved all of the attention and had fun in a relaxed work setting without the stress of actually working. I used to teach in the same district, and I saw a ton of people I know, so it was fun for all of us.
There was a little talk of my going back to work, and in the rush of seeing everyone I used to love working with I started to get all sorts of ideas. And then I came home and remembered the whole stay-at-home-mom business that I’ve got going on and remembered why those plans are on the backburner.
Anyway, for our April date night, we went to Salem and had bad hotel chicken and passable hotel wine, and it was awesome.
Wow! First, if I had a husband that was into even one of my shows, let alone a soap opera, I'd think I'd died and gone to Heaven. Second, the table looks amazing! It's beyond cool that his co-workers knew enough about him to do that right.
