Parties, School and Winners

So, it looks like I skipped right over blogging for most of the month of August. This happens pretty much every summer. I keep telling myself that I don’t have the time, but really I have entirely too much time on my hands, and that just makes me super lazy. Let’s catch up.

My husband is back to work, and my feelings on that are pretty much identical to this time last year. Still, it is nice to be collecting a paycheck again, so I suppose I’ll stop complaining now. Well, I’ll stop complaining about that, because I have to say this: I am SO tired of being hot. We’ve also had some uncharacteristic humidity and here I am talking about the weather, which is so fascinating! The sun is making me sweat (rather profusely – what’s up with that, hormones?) and I don’t like it. I’ll be much more pleasant in December.

We had an anniversary party for my parents and it was so, so fun. They loved it, because all they had to do was show up and have all of their favorite people there, and I loved it because it was really nice to do something for them for once. They’re the kind of people who are completely impossible to buy anything for, so if I can find something helpful to do, that feels so much more special.

We had the party on the beach in front of a friend’s house and the owners of the house told both my mom and me that this was the best party she had ever been to on her beach.

We had a candy buffet by Whimsy and Wise and this photo doesn’t even come close to doing justice to its awesomeness. I can’t wait to see the official party pictures, taken on something other than an iPhone.

The crowning glory of the party was really the s’mores bar. It was a huge hit, and so fun and perfect for a party on the beach.

One of the greatest parts of this party for me was the people, and not just the people attending the party. Every single person we worked with was just so nice, and easy and wonderful. The person who owns the home next door came down to the beach and offered us "his” beach if we needed more space, and the person on the other side opened up her driveway for navigating the tiny street for deliveries.

And, in one final sign that summer is officially over – except for the weather which will stick around for what the rest of the country calls FALL – I have a kindergartener. I’m going to need to talk about this soon.
