Sneaky Vacay

We just returned from a short trip, not ever mentioned once on any social media channel if you can freaking believe THAT. It was just the kids and me, because Bub has some time off of school that my husband doesn’t have. And Bubette doesn’t have a schedule that needs to be adhered to yet.

So, we ran away to the desert because we were able to snag a deal via our timeshare. (Have you had the pleasure of hearing my thoughts on a time share? Here they are: Probably not worth it. If you are the sort of people who travel to the same place every year, and like to stay in the same place every year, then yes, worth it. Or if you’re interested in buying the most popular location, then buy that, because you’ll be able to trade it for anything. Otherwise, it’s kind of a major pain.)

I wasn’t really worried about solo parenting for a few days on vacation, because I didn’t have to cook dinner, or clean anything and I could settle in for a movie with Bub every afternoon because it’s vacation! Also, it’s 108 degrees outside and Bubette is sleeping, so our options were somewhat limited between the hours of 1 and 4pm. I was worried about getting all of our stuff to the room. I spent a lot of time thinking about how this was going to work out. This couldn’t have been less of an issue, as there was parking directly outside of our room.

It was fun. It was hot. (I can not be made to believe there’s a place on this earth that isn’t hot right now. WHERE IS FALL? The lowest temp in the 25 day forecast? 75. It was 100 here on Monday. It’s like the heat has completely broken my brain because I can’t think of anything else to talk about.)

The kids swam, and Bub made friends, and Bubette got to paint a car while her brother made felt pizza.

So many people said, “You’re doing WHAT now?” when I told them that I was taking the kids on vacation solo, so I feel totally triumphant that we lived to tell the tale. Then again, vacation is not real life, so I’m not going to give myself too much credit.

Plus, that shot of my kid in the apron and hat? Totally made my trip.

  1. Sounds fabulous. I'd live to sneak away for a quick vacay. Come to Washington it was 37* this morning when I woke up. My feet are freezing!
